The Missouri Constitution (Article XIV) lists several qualifying conditions that allow patients to apply for a medical card in Missouri.   • Huntington’s disease
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Intractable migraines unresponsive to other treatment
  • Neuropathies
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Terminal illness
  • A chronic medical condition that causes severe, persistent pain or persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those associated with multiple sclerosis (MS), seizures, Parkinson’s disease, and Tourette’s syndrome
  • A chronic medical condition that’s usually treated with prescription medications that could lead to physical or psychological dependence. And, when a physician determines that medical marijuana could be an effective and safer alternative treatment for the condition.
  • Debilitating psychiatric disorders, including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); if diagnosed by a state-licensed psychiatrist.
  • In the professional judgment of a physician, any other chronic, debilitating medical condition. For example, hepatitis C.

How to qualify for medical marijuana in Missouri

Once you’ve made sure you meet all the Missouri medical card requirements, here’s how to begin the registration process:

  1. Get certified by a qualified marijuana doctor in Missouri. If approved, patients will receive a Physician Certification Form.
  2. Next, patients must register with the state on the Complia application portal.
  3. Once registered, patients should complete their application by logging into the Complia portal, clicking “Create Application” and “New Patient Registration”.
  4. Please note: Applications are usually processed within 30 days in the order they are received.

Do I qualify for a medical card in Missouri?

  1. Adult patients must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Patients under 18 years old must have a designated and registered caregiver applying on their behalf.
  3. All applicants must be Missouri residents.
  4. Patients must be diagnosed with one of the qualifying conditions for a medical card in Missouri.
  5. Patients must have a complete physician certification form before starting the application process.

What documents do I need to submit?

Part of the Missouri medical card requirements include documents patients must upload during their application. For instance:

  1. Proof of Missouri residency. Either:
  2. Missouri driver’s license,
  3. MO state ID,
  4. recent utility bill,
  5. Missouri motor vehicle registration.
  6. A physician certification form. The certifying physician will submit the form electronically through the application website. Then, patients will attach the form through their application when applying.
  7. A legible copy of the qualifying patient’s photo ID issued by a state or federal government entity.
  8. Parental or legal guardian consent form for patients under 18 years of age.
  9. A clear, color photo of the qualifying patient’s face taken within the last 3 months.

Approved patients can buy medical cannabis from licensed marijuana dispensaries in MO. Also, you can only buy a maximum of 4 ounces of dried, unprocessed marijuana within a 30 day period; unless your doctor recommends otherwise.
